International Symposium
“Reading Makes the World Come Together”
June 14-15, 2012, South Korea

The National Library for Children and Young Adults (NLCY) invites speakers to present a paper for the 6th International Symposium. The symposium will take place between June 14 and 15, 2012, in South Korea.

The NLCY holds the Annual International Symposium to improve library services for children and young adults and promote reading habits among them. The following is the theme and subjects of interest.

“Reading Makes the World Come Together”

▪Roles of libraries in enhancing reading comprehension of children and young adults living in the information society

▪ Library services to promote reading of children
-          Excellent children’s libraries committed to enhancing children’s literacy skills
-          Successful reading promotion programs which create a desirable reading environment for children
-          Successful reading promotion programs through intergenerational collaboration
-          Cooperative partnership with other organizations and groups for better reading promotion

▪ Creating a reading culture for young adults or the digital generation
-           Reading promotion using social networking services, smart phones, tablet PC, games, etc
-           Successful reading promotion programs for boys
-           Planning reading programs by engaging youth reading advisory groups and volunteers
-           School Library’s successful reading programs

▪ Library policies for underprivileged families
-           Information literacy program for underserved and multicultural children
-           Successful library outreach programs for these groups

▪ Professional development or continuing education programs for children’s librarians
-           Training program designed to enhance librarians’ reading counseling competence
-           Training program designed to further improve digital competence of children’s librarians

We would like presenters to share their valuable knowledge and experience with Symposium participants. Should you be interested, please submit the proposal form. Proposals for papers should clearly indicate the interest it is for and include an abstract of no more than 600 words. You should send it by email to yunmeej@korea.kr or sunny13@korea.kr before Feb. 18, 2012. The ! submissions will be evaluated and prospective speakers will be notified by Feb. 29, 2012 and must submit the full paper by Apr. 15, 2012 to allow time for its reviews and translation. The abstract should include the following:
   ▪ Name of the speaker
▪ Institutional affiliation and address
▪ Title of the paper
▪ Brief biography of the speaker
▪ Personal details (email address, phone number and postal address)

The Presentation as well as abstracts and full papers should be delivered and written in English. Successful speakers will be provided with financial support including travel, accommodation, meals and travel insurance. For more information, please contact.
